COPD Or Not?
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

Two months ago COPD diagnosted. Fev1 60%, TIFF 51%. Yesterday FEV1 80%, TIFF 59%. Both times FEV was over 110%.
Is it possible COPB get well?

In the beginning, doctors explained to me that the situation could not be better…

First diagnosis was COPD, now he changed to COPD/ASTMA, but he said, he is not sure…

I've had COPD for over 20 years (diagnosed in 2000 and I know I had it in 1985) and I've learned a lot over the years. One of the things that's becoming very obvious in the last several years is that we're recognizing that COPD is related to a number of other lung-related ailments: bronchiectasis and NTM, asthma, a number of pseudomonas, and a bunch of other things. We're identifying syndromes that recognize the relationships between these things and finding that meds that are designed for a specific situation may be appropriately applied to other scenarios. Part of what we're able to do now is to isolate certain aspects of diseases or conditions that can be joined and treated because we're now able to understand the relationships. That's part of what your doc is participating in, and you need to encourage him to look at the research and learn about how asthma/COPD is now a real diagnosis and then how to treat it. You can be his first patient and you can learn with him: what works and what doesn't. It can be a great partnership........

Hi Jamez I’m sorry to hear of your dilemma as I’m not a Medic but I can tell you DRs do not fully understand COPD my recommendation is to insist he/she sends you to a Consultant who does know what they are talking about.
Take Care

I am no medical expert either but I work on exercising and studying the bible! I do hope you find an expert doctor who knows about COPD!

You've had two PFTs with different outcomes that your current pulmonologist doesn't know quite what to make of. Give them credit for acknowledging they don't understand the meanings of these results. Ask for a referral to a Center of Excellence for COPD/Asthma and/or other lung diseases for a complete diagnostic workup. I'd choose a university hospital that has a specialty in Lung Disease or head for Mayo, Cleveland Clinic or National Jewish in Denver. You should be able to get a good diagnosis and treatment from them.
