Inogen At Home - GS-100 Continuous Flow Oxygen Concentrator. Love It Or Hate It?

A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭
Silicon Valley

Pricing varies from $1,495 (internet) to $2,154 (Inogen). Can’t see paying an extra $659 just to get it direct from Inogen, as well as two (2) extra years of warranty (five (5) years total).

If you have this unit, is it quiet?

If you have this unit, is it reliable?

Most suppliers online have a no-return policy (despite claiming a 30 days return option), and a restocking fee of 15% plus shipping if I hate it. Ugh !

I have been using the Philips EverFlo (31 pound beast) for the last year and… read more

My portables are a little noisy, but I still carry them everywhere I go take them to church restaurants anywhere I want to go I’ve gone to concerts Don’t seem to bother anybody nobody ever says anything anyway, I don’t care I have to breathe. I have a right to be out just like they do. And I’m not saying this to be mean, it’s just the truth we all have just as much rights being out.♥️

I purchased a refurbished gs 100 for a trip so that I could have oxygen overnight hooked to my cpap. I thought it was fairly quiet and much easier to move than my home machine. I used it with a long cannula to move around the hotel room also. It is a size that I could lift and I am not too strong. As Covid was ending I think there were extra oxygen machines and it turned out to be cheaper to buy than to rent for a week. I have an Inogen g 3 for a portable unit.

I've mostly had the noisy everFlo because I get it from the Oxygen supply company. I use Lincare for my in home and bottles supply. I now have a Stratus 5 in home really quite and works well and I have set on 4 lpm. When I was on private insurance it paid pretty decent for these. and now that I'm on SS my medicare and Part G Supplement pay 100% less my annual deductible. I use Lincare because they were the close by available when I started and are nationwide so if I travel and have a problem I can go to any local office to get help or replacement or refill bottles. I also keep 3 25' lengths of hoe on mine. They tell you not to do more than 2 lengths but I' don't have any problem doing the 3 or (75 feet) of hose. and a 7 ft canula. Just make sure your insurance will take care of you. Better than buying them as they can quit on an instant. I have had about 6 machines in the last 10 years.

I have the Inogen continuous flow as a travel machine. I cannot speak to reliability as I have used it just a few days at a time. I keep it in a box when not at use so I can load it in the trunk. It weighs 18 lbs but seemed easier to load. It was quiet to me but I have some hearing loss and have a very noisy machine at home. I am happy with it. I bought a refurbished model from a medical supply. So far it is great. I have my portable in case of emergency.

While I agree with you about the benefits of rental, @A MyCOPDTeam Member, I have been very unimpressed with both Lincare and Supercare. Lincare got my Rx in September 2021, didn’t test me until November 2021 (after I drove back and forth to Salinas to pick up the equipment and return it after the overnight testing was complete), and when they failed to deliver my oxygen by mid-January, I switched to the next vendor on the list - Supercare.

I have been unhappy with their customer service (it takes HOURS to get to a live person), and their excuse that equipment is backordered (for a year and a half 👀) is just on my last nerve.

So, we’ll see what’s possible with the portable unit, once I get the stationary unit resolved. Sadly, Medicare will only pay for one (1) unit, so I’d rather have them pay for the portable if I can get one as I agree that trading out for a better unit is more my thing.

Thanks for your input, too, @A MyCOPDTeam Member. Knowing it’s quieter than the blue beast is very important.
