Sertraline (an antidepressant) is a recognized approach for managing depression alongside COPD. There isn't a COPD-specific depression medication, but antidepressants like sertraline are commonly used and can make a real difference. Beyond medication, other things that MyCOPDTeam members have found helpful for managing depression with COPD include:
- Counseling or talk therapy
- Chair yoga
- Gentle outdoor walks
- Journaling
- Meditation
- Staying connected with supportive people
One MyCOPDTeam member shared: "I go to counseling once a week, do chair yoga, walk outside no matter how slowly, journal, learn something everyday, and always meditate. That's what I do to keep my head above water."
Always check with a healthcare provider before making any changes to current medications.
