Non-smoker With Emphysema.
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does the disease progress any differently in smokers and non-smokers? The first bit of advice given to those afflicted with emphysema is to stop smoking - well what is the advice if one doesn't smoke?

If there are lung irritants you were exposed to, or are exposed to, you want to see if you can't eliminate them from your life somehow. After that, it's daily exercise, watch your weight, take your meds.....all the things the rest of us do. Get checked for Alpha-1.

As for disease progression, it progresses pretty much the same for everyone. Talk with your doc about what he things you could do to manage and control your chronic condition.

Please go to Alpha1.org. There is a free test available that is a simple finger prick. I have Alpha 1 and it is a genetic immune disease that can cause lung, liver and kidney symptomatic disease. Please feel free to add me to your team. I am always happy to assist other Alpha's.
