Steroids are needed when you have an exerbation. You can slowly taper down to your normal dose. Learn pursed lip breathing and practice it. Then you can incorporate it into your activities, with rest and recovery in Between. Good luck.

Usually you are only on steroids, i.e. Prednisone, for a short period of time and then you back off slowly. Prednisone will make you gain weight although 40-60 lbs. is un usual I think unless your Dr. is giving you too high of a dosage without coming down slowly. When you first start taking them you can't sleep for a couple of nights.
