Shower
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone else get TOTALLY exhausted just taking a shower? It seem to really wear me out. I don't know what I can do to make this subside.

I have a plastic stool/seat in the shower so I can sit down when too exhausted to stand up. Simple but effective.

I have a shower chair which is great. The problem is using your arms and legs at the same time--uses lots of energy thus lots of O2. I sit to wash my body and hair and then rinse standing. I sit back down and dry my legs. I keep my lotion for my legs in the shower so it is handy to sit right there and put it on my legs. I have a terry robe I slip on, and it dries my body while I sit at the sink on a stool to dry and comb hair and put on more lotion. Showers used to be hell for me. When i tried to use oxygen, it felt like the water ran down the tube into my nose. Now, with the help of occupational therapy, I have it under control. No problem. Hope this helps. I found my shower chair at second hand shop for $10.00 and stool for $3.00. Organized all my bathing supplies in a container that uses suction cups to stay on the wall in the shower. No more gathering. Love it, Hope this helps

Hels,I agree with what you said about people that come to see you. I have said for years if someone comes to see me and not my house it shouldn't make any different what my house looks like and if they came to see my house they can stay away

@A MyCOPDTeam Member, I had to smile at your description of bed-making. That's exactly how I feel. I hate to admit it, but in between sheet changing days (and when I'm not expecting guests who would want a tour of my house), I've finally given up having the bedspread perfect ten minutes after I get up. I'm telling you, I used to be a fanatic about it! Fresh sheets day counts as extra exercise points, and the only way I can get through it is resting between each step, contour sheet, top sheet, blanket, etc. Sometimes it's resting between contour sheet, right side, contour sheet, left side. Sometimes I use my oximeter to determine that it's safe to move to the next step but, oh, I'm so proud when I get through! Of course, I'm being proud while gasping on the floor, but it's nice to feel good about something. (Being silly here.)

I to get sob when I shower. I wear my oxygen and use a shower chair, this does help. I turn my oxygen up to 4 liters too. I just have to slow down and take my time. By the time I'm dressed I'm ready to rest for a while. Hope this helps someone!!
