I don't have any room to talk as I was never a smoker, BUT it seems to me that it might be a little easier if you pick a day to quit, and have a friend (Non-smoker) stay with you for a couple days for support. My daughter, at the age of 40, has had 4 heart attacks, 16 heart caths, 5 stents and 2 open heart surgeries. Only 25% of her heart is functioning. They will not put her on the transplant list until she has been smoke free for six months. She was in the hospital for a week recently, and hasn't smoked since. It took her being unable to smoke that forced her to quit. So it has to be an extremely hard thing for people to do. Keep trying, don't give up. PLEASE don't wind up in a situation like my daughter!
@A MyCOPDTeam Member Thank you for caring. I know, it's like when you have cancer and can't even get an appointment at the Cancer Center unless you are wealthy. It's a shame.
Thats terrible but very true
my intention was not to be mean I was upset to hear your daughter had been refused life saving surgeries I apologize if it seemed mean so sorry
@A MyCOPDTeam Member I read back thru all the posts and didn't read anything that sounded mean to me. Some of them were along the lines it's time to face the facts. You're not going to get better. Let me tell you Amy. We've all known for many years we were killing ourselves. We've all been where you are. We understand and we care about you which is why we're trying to get you to do what you can for yourself right now. I see you're from the UK which means maybe many of us in the U.S. don't know what it's like to get health care there. But I've gotten the attitude from doctors and nurses with their noses in the air, looking down on me for being so stupid. We're not supposed to judge anybody until we've walked a mile in their shoes. Until then we can't know the troubles they've seen or the struggles they've been thru. So stick around. Read other peoples bios and ask to be on their team if they can relate to you and you can relate to them. If you're like me, you won't quit until you're too scared to smoke anymore. By then you will be in very bad shape. I don't recommend waiting that long.
