Exercise For Inhaling
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

I haven't been on in ages, Mom died of cancer in August and 3 weeks later I found out I had lung cancer. A small spot. I had 5 radiation treatments and I'm now waiting for 3 months to pass and I'll get another scan. I feel pretty confident about it. I have a question, what is the best exercise for your lung when inhaling ? My exhaling is better (not a lot but a little) but the inhaling part I seem to be weaker. Or Is that just part of having emphysema? Would appreciate any answers if you found… read more

You still need to start an exercise program. If you add exercises to strengthen the core muscle groups, you'll be doing a lot more than just strengthening your inspiratory muscles. Talk with your doc about PR or starting your own exercise program. It'll do way more for you than the Power Breather will.

The device I use is called Inspiratory muscle trainer.... I live in Canada and the respirologist suggested to use it. It makes you have to inhale harder so breathing muscles get stronger. Hope this helps.

If you're worried that you inspiratory muscles aren't working very well, you can purchase a device called a PowerBreather that provides resistance to inhaling. That will help build those muscles. I'd also suggest an exercise program that you discuss with your doc. You need to be doing both aerobic and strengthening exercises; about an hour a day. I'd suggest the exercise program as your best bet

I use the lung flute it's a breathing machine that u hold in your hand it's light it's plastic an u blow in it makes a funny sound that vibrates down your throat to your lungs that losings the mucus An makes u cough it up it helps me wen I get short of breath it teaches u how to control your breathing wen u get excited or out of breath from walking

Thank you Jean. I'll look to see where to get a PowerBreather. Maybe Amazon, they seem to have most things I need. Thanks again. Very helpful as that is just what I am concerned about.
