I only have the problem of ankles swelling when sitting at the pc or table doing paperwork. But while watching tv I always have my feet up so maybe they'd swell if I didn't. Standing or walking doesn't do it. My mom couldn't raise her feet because of a bad knee so hers was so bad when she had heart failure they would split the skin. Exercise does wonders for that. Lots of walking keeps the blood moving up instead of puddling in the lower extremities. I have terrible pain in my ankles sometimes but think it comes from arthritis though a lot of times don't hurt at all. Go figure :/

I have had my ankles and feet swell many times and it can be quite serious sometimes. I usually get cellulitis. It's actually a type of staph infection. My legs will get red and sometimes warm to the touch where they are swollen and I usually am put on two antibiotics at a time. The last time it took 10 weeks of antibiotics before the infection was gone and the swolleness went away. Funny thing is that I only get the cellulitis in my left leg never the right although both legs are swollen from the calves down. The pain I get in my feet is from diabetic neuropathy and you don't have to be a diabetic to get that. They have several medications on the market that can help with that pain. I have even been hospitalized for cellulitis because I also got septic. That too is another strain of staph but a lot more serious. Sepsis is an infection in the blood. I originally went to my pcp who started me on the antibiotics but when it wouldn't go away she referred me to a vascular surgeon. He monitored the condition quite closely. He said it could easily get worse which I already knew since it happened to me before. If your pcp isin't addressing it then please find another pcp who will. Also I am on oxygen 24/7 and I use a bi-pap machine. Your oxygen levels have nothing to do with the swelling. My father-in-law's legs will swell but with him he has CHF(congestive heart failure) and that's what causes his to swell. The reason I am telling you this is because there is more than one thing that can cause this and it can;t be ignored. Please tell your pcp if he isin't going to address your legs then to please refer you to someone who will. Please don't wait. Get help asap. Please keep us informed of what happens with you. I pray that someone will help u right away. God Bless and take care

I've had swollen feet and legs for a long time. I'm on 2 water pills per day and I have a fluid restriction of one liter per day, plus I wear compression stockings. As long as I try to keep my feet up, it's pretty much OK. The fluid restriction is the worst part. Good luck!

I have the same problem, mostly in hot, humid weather when we tend to retain fluid. My cardiologist increased my Furosemide (water pill) to 2 a day & less sodium. Of course, consult with your doc

My doctor gave me a prescription for water pills. No more swelling.
