Im On Oxygen 2 Liters At Night, And Occasionally Around The House. I Do Use O2 When Shopping. Pulse Ox Readings Are High 97.
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

My insurance now has someone come and check to make sure I need my oxygen. I go through exercises for ten minutes without using my oxygen. The nurse can see Im completely out of breath, and gives me oxygen right away. My pulse ox reading is always 97 to 99 after the exercise. Im afraid they will take this from me since the reading is high. I have been on oxygen for almost two years with the same readings. My doctor previously tried to get me oxygen for two years without success. I am… read more

Concerning these at rest numbers on oxygen. Anyone with a resting oxygen level in the mid 90's or higher should be very happy that their lungs are working well enough to exspel carbon dioxide and bring oxygen into their blood! However this has nothing to do with needing supplemental oxygen when moving about and exercising! Many people have reached the stage in their COPD disease that when doing any sort of exercising their oxygen level will drop like a stone and then reach right back into the 99's after they have rested! As you get into moderate and severe COPD I believe it often becomes the norm. Don't let any idiot tell you that you don't need oxygen when you move around. I have never heard of any 10 minute rule that you have be under 88 to qualify for oxygen. Rather I thought the rule was if you drop under 88 when walking you qualify for oxygen! This is in the USA. Does anyone else know something different!

I also use oxygen at night to sleep
If I'm feeling rundown or have been coughing or feeling stuffed up! In an exacerbation where I develop a cold, at the first sign of my mucus discharge turning green I start antibiotics and prednisone! Antibiotics twice a day for 5 to 7 days depending how I feel and prednisone on a 3 for 3 days, 2 for 3 days and 1 for 3 days! Thank goodness that does the trick! Also that I take 1k of Vitamin D everyday and go up to 2.5k at the first sign of a cold! This is coming from a guy who would get a cold at least every 3 months and be in bed for at least 2 weeks. That thank goodness is a thing of the past for the last 3 years. Just me!

Dont feel embarrassed asking questions. Its when we know our breathing is worse and the oxygen is not helping us at all. Even if you have a pulse ox machine, I dont believe they are correct readings. You feel as though you are actually dying, cant breathe even with oxygen on. I have been in the hospitals several times with this in the past five years. Many IVs, respiratory therapy therapy and lots of blood draws. Hope that helps Sue Fellers. Have a great day.

This is truly a mystery! I do the testing at the Doctors and they have a long hallway in which a nurse goes with me to walk this hallway to and fro at a very fast place. My readings drop into the 80's following the walk and after cool down, rise back to 98. I am no longer on oxygen as the meds I take and the prayers I say have been working for me. God Bless You and have a positive day!
