Prednisone Usage
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

When and how often should you use a steroid. I'm having trouble breathing with the heat and humidity.

@A MyCOPDTeam Member Hello! I feel while useful Prednisone is over prescribed. I have it on hand when needed I will use it along with a course of antibiotics. However I do not like the after affects of using Prednisone at all.

Well if it helps you and you have no after effects from the Prednisolone after taking it or 5 days but I do and refuse to take it..

Lost count of the number of hospital admissions over the last 6 years. Had only 11 weeks of 2016 without being on Prednisolone! The docs seems to prescribe it as par for the course. That said, my hospital consultant has stopped any weaning off and advised taking a 5-day course of 30 or 40 mgs and stopping altogether. What I didn't know but certainly know now is that continued usage of steroids has caused cataracts. I've recently had surgery on one eye and am having the other one done week after next. It came as one hell of a shock!

Well I have been on Prednisone for a month and and came down off it by 2 pills started taking 10 tiny then a week later went to 8 pills and so on until I was down to 1 pill. But when go into the hospital and they want to put me on them I refuse and it sends me loopy.

Sparks, your hospitalist needs to know how often and how long you've been on prednisone, because there is concern about weaning off if you've been on it for extended periods of time. The burst of 30 or 40 mgs and then done is currently considered best practice for very intermittent use, but your use doesn't sound intermittent.
