i am finding i have no strengh in my arms and not much in my legs, i thought some sort of exercise might help..
First talk with your doc and be sure that it's safe for you to exercise and understand any limitations you may have. If there are limitations or concerns that you and your doc have. ask for an evaluation b y a physical therapist so you can learn what kinds of exercise you can do safely. If that's not necessary ask about Pulmonary Rehab, which is an exercise and education program specifically designed for people with COPD. My suggestion would be to begin with strengthening exercises with resistance bands and small weights. Once you've built up some strength, you could move on to aerobic exercise.
Part of your weakness may be due to poor circulation. My doctor had special socks made for me to wear during the day which keeps my legs and feet from either swelling - moving around (like restless leg syndrome) - and strengthens my legs for easier walking. You must be careful not to sleep with them on tho.
My doc told me that walking was the very best exercise of all for the legs. Also while sitting in a chair - lift your legs alternately as if you're marching.
Just take day by day walk if you are able to.
I went to pulmonary rehab {my ins. covered it), afterward their is church that has a exercise room and a rehab time for those that need it. It helps strengthening the legs and their have things to strengthen the upper body. If you have pulmonary rehab or a church that has exercise rooms, please look into it. It is worth it. Breathe easy, Love and hugs.
