Nebulizer And Supplies
A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi, my doctor told me to buy a nebulizer? Not sure what to buy and do I need extra supplies besides the medication? Any advice would be appreciated they have so many different ones to choose from. On Amazon it shows people bought paroxcide and some kind of saleine solutions. Is that something I need also?
Thank you

I have medicare and a supplemental insurance policy. My nebulizer was provided to me by my oxygen supplier. All paid for by insurance. The medications used in the nebulizer were prescribed by my pulmonologist and paid for by my insurance. I only use mine when I get sick.

Part D has been part of Medicare for quite some time now. It gives you some help in paying for meds that aren't covered by Part B. It's one of the things they've been working on, and you'll pay less out of pocket in 2024 for Part D meds than you did last year.

I have a few nebulizers, my insurance Cigna paid for one Salter brand really nice pressure and filtering, Medicare paid for a portable one through MED4home it works off 12dc or a battery. You can also nebulize off of your oxygen tanks too, set regulator to 6-10 LPM depending on the mouthpiece. They work great, you get the medications trough your doctor's prescription, usually but not allways Albuterol Sulfate and Ipratropium Bromide for me and many others.

if you have a supplier of 02 or any other respiratory equipment, you should be able to get a nebulizer from them. You can also purchase one; if you do that, get one of the small portable ones you can use anywhere: Omron and Peri both make good ones. You do have to purchase the medication you use and that requires a prescription as well. Depending on the type of nebulizer you use, you may have to purchase other items for that specific machine.
