I haven't used one YET, but my doctor offered one last year when I was having a hard time coughing up mucus, as I am again right now. She seemed to think it is a great help. I read that using a vibrator on the chest will help to loosen it up. I also use Mulein drops a couple times a day. Let us now how it works for you. @A MyCOPDTeam Member

Hi BobbeJ. This is not intended to be medical advice or even a suggestion of such. Just information to let you know there are options.

There are hand-held "chest percussor" devices also available for home use. The video below also offers a more traditional method of MUCUS clearing as well. In either case, a trusty Assistant would be helpful to cover the areas of your torso that you can't reach.

Not knowing the severity of your GOO buildup, I hope your Doc still emphasizes that staying HYDRATED is one of the key means of keeping Muccal buildup at bay.

My percussion treatments were done in the hospital ICU by an Old-school nurse with a good bedside manner. While the chest and back thumping could probably be heard down the hall, it was at least a reminder to other patients to ask for an extra helping of water - before and after the lunch tray arrived.

be Well

Some people can tolerate the vest. Others find it too rough for them.

While the search results don't contain specific experiences with percussion vests, it's worth noting that there are several ways members manage their COPD symptoms through various therapies and devices. Some members have found success with pulmonary rehabilitation programs that combine different breathing techniques and exercises.

Here are some complementary techniques that can be used alongside a percussion vest:
• Pursed lip breathing for better oxygen delivery
• Using a nebulizer with a flutter device to help remove congestion
• Humming deep notes to help loosen mucus
• Regular exercise as tolerated Consider tracking your progress and symptoms daily while using the percussion vest. Many members find that keeping track of their breathing improvements helps them stay motivated with new treatments. Remember to always follow your healthcare provider's instructions regarding the use of any medical device.
