He really has to quit smoking , I smoked for many years, I quit on my death bed, after emergency surgery. When I got out of the hospital I used the nicoderm CQ patch it really works. Good luck, God bless you and your husband.

Hubby went to Dr years ago was told he had lungs of 70 year old. I quit using the vapor cigs. Started on 12and just slowly decreased nicotine level till got it down to 0.

As difficult as it is for me to write and as hard as it will be for you to hear, things will NOT get better until he can qui smoking. As long as he smokes, he will continue to get worse, little by little. It will be a very slow process, and probably very painful for both of you. All the things that have happened to him: stents, stroke, heart attack and COPD are all influenced and in the case of COPD, caused, by smoking.

The lung test he's getting is either a spirometry test or Pulmonary Function Test. The next time one is done have him as for a copy the results; that way you'll know which it is. It doesn't measure "how old" the lungs are, but sometimes docs use that terminology to describe it. The measure they are looking at is the FEV1, which gives you a percentage that tells you his lung function compared to a normal persons.

The inhalers will help a bit, but not much as long as he smokes.

yes smoking does kill our lungs. Yet my hubby smoked non filters from early age, later switched to filtered. But when he died his lungs were clear and strong... he had cancer cancer caused by Agent Orange from his time in Vietnam. So it didn't matter how old his lungs were then anymore. He did finally quit smoking cause that is what messed up his heart.

He must stop smoking!! No way around it if he wants to live. All of my COPD friends were smoking as I was too. We all stopped smoking. He can too. If he has a death wish, he can continue smoking!
