These devices are useful for several lung conditions, not just COPD. They work by creating a strong back pressure in the lung cavity. This helps improve the Exhale force which normally gets worse over time as the chest muscles weaken. The vibrations also activate the cillia hairs which move irritants (and germs) out of the breathing pathways.

But fluids (water) are the main help for excess mucus buildup. Most mucus is absorbed back into the body tissues, not expelled. When combined with medications too, the bronchial passages stay clearer for breathing, while the lung tissues get to absorb more oxygen.

The definitive test for COPD is a spirometry or Pulmonary Function Test. Without that, the diagnosis is a guess.

An Air Physio is designed to loosen the mucus in the lungs and make it easier to cough up; very similar to the Aerobika and the Acapella. The Breather is a device designed to strengthen in inspiratory muscles allow deeper inhales. Both types of devices can be helpful to people with COPD.

I had an Air Physio and didn’t like it. I found that to make it work properly, I had to exhale in a perfect manner each time or the ball would not produce the necessary flutter. I sent it back. I use two devices at home now. The first is The Breather, the second is Aerobika. The Breather strengthens my respiratory muscles and helps open my airways. The Aerobika flutter device helps preventing mucus buildup. I highly recommend them both.
Hope this helps!
