Members responded with warmth and zero judgment to someone asking for help quitting smoking, sharing a wide range of personal strategies that worked for them. Several members recommended nicotine patches, gum, and lozenges, while others swore by Chantix, drinking water with every craving, or even cinnamon Altoids to make cigarettes taste unpleasant. A recurring theme was that quitting takes persistence, a strong personal reason to stop, and leaning on faith, family, and community support to get through the hardest moments.

That's the good thing about this site @A MyCOPDTeam Member is that there is no judgement just support. None of us are perfect and it's nice to interact with others that have gone through the same thing. πŸ€—

My husband used both the Nicotine patches and the gum. But the best thing is to break your habits that go with the times you really enjoy smoking. Like, 1st cigarette with your morning coffee. After a meal, etc.
If you like one with your coffee, change where, how and when you have your coffee. After meals, go for a walk if you can. My husband even changed from his favorite brand of cigarette to one he hated...a menthol!🀣 I quit smoking AND drinking cold turkey, at the same time....the day I found out I was pregnant. Would not suggest that!😳

I drank a 16oz. class of water every time I wanted to smoke, it was like two or three weeks and i had no urge to smoke. I had smoked around 30-40 yrs. and it's been 17 yrs. now since I quit! Hope this helps!
Breathe well my friend!

@A MyCOPDTeam Member I was getting pretty far with a welcome to the site, and an answer to your how to quit smoking question. I was bee bopping right along, and poof! It's GONE! To try and make it short and quick. I had been a 2-3 pk a DAY, Insane smoker. Started cutting back in 2024 from a pk a day. I gradually cut down by a cigarette or 2 a day, and before I knew it I was down to 7 cigs a day. Yee haw, woo hoo, hot dang! Actually it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. Maybe because it was getting harder to have a smoke just anywhere, I don't know. But then May 1,2024, unknown to me (I had no idea that I had COPD) had a really bad flare. It was like I was trying to breathe through one little red coffee stirrer! That lasted for a couple of hours. I'll spare you the details, but I was pretty sure I was going to die. Ended up I the hospital. After that I got home and immediately all, and I mean ALL of the cigarettes went out the door . I have never been so scared!!
Do I ever want one now, of course I do. Sometimes I really want one. But all I have to do is think about that one night when I was almost a dead woman. And it doesn't take long at all to change my mind.
So I'm wishing you the best of luck, and I hope you don't have an episode like I did! I don't wish that on anyone! I know you can do it. I did, and I thought that would never happen!
Be smoke free, think about what that money would buy, but more importantly, think about your health, and how it will help you live much better. Have fun 😊

And, give yourself more credit than you think you have. Dig deep and do it!
