Does anyone have anything positive to say about it. My diminished activity level has caused me to gain a significant amount of weight and since I have little to look forward to I'm desperate to improve my longevity .

Hello DD. I did the Pulmonary Therapy to boost my activity and to better understand my limits. It has helped me get to where I do 30 minutes of Treadmill and some weights all while monitoring my O2 levels. I found that even these low level cardio and other workouts gas me I always feel a bit better at the end. Keep on doing anything you can. For weight can, I try to be mindful of what I am eating, even keeping a journal so I can better monitor my intake to match my real caloric needs.

Good luck with it all and may we all breathe well.

What can help improve your outlook with stage 4 COPD?

It's completely understandable to feel frustrated about weight gain and reduced activity with stage 4 COPD. The good news is that lifestyle changes, even at this stage, can make a real difference in how you feel and your quality of life.

Many people with stage 4 COPD find that combining treatments helps manage symptoms and improve their daily experience. Here's what typically helps:

Treatment approaches that can support you:
- Medications like bronchodilators and steroids to help breathing
- Oxygen therapy if your levels are low
- Pulmonary rehabilitation programs focused on safe exercise
- Palliative care for symptom management and emotional support

About exercise and weight:
Exercise is actually one of the most important things you can do, even with severe COPD. Some members with stage 4 have found ways to stay active despite bad days. One member even continued participating in triathlons at stage 4, though they acknowledged having difficult days where simple tasks left them breathless.

The key is finding what works for your body on good days and being gentle with yourself on harder days. A structured program with medical supervision can help you exercise safely and build strength gradually.

Your mindset matters too:
Mental strength plays a huge role. As one member put it, "the body will do what the mind tells it to." Don't give up - there's much you can do to manage symptoms and stay strong.

Talk with your healthcare team about creating a personalized plan that addresses both your physical symptoms and emotional well-being.
