A MyCOPDTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I've have dealt with issues involving depression and anxiety for many years. There are some serious mental health side effects listed for this medication. My question is has anyone experienced any increased negative mental health situations while taking this medication. Thank you.

That's a really important question, especially given your history with depression and anxiety. It's smart to be looking into this before starting a new medication.

Ohtuvayre (ensifentrine) does carry a warning about rare but serious psychiatric side effects, including an increased risk of suicidal thoughts. This is something worth taking very seriously and discussing openly with your doctor before starting the medication. Because you already have a history of depression and anxiety, here are some important steps to consider:

- Talk to your doctor about your mental health history before starting Ohtuvayre
- Ask about monitoring β€” your doctor may want to check in with you more frequently while on this medication
- Have a support plan in place, such as a mental health professional you can contact if you notice changes in your mood
- Know the warning signs β€” if you notice worsening depression, unusual thoughts, or any thoughts of self-harm, seek medical help immediately

Living with COPD already puts people at a higher risk for mental health challenges, so having these conversations with your care team upfront is really the best move here.
