What a stressful situation to navigate — managing a tooth extraction while keeping up with essential COPD medications is a real balancing act, and you're smart to think ahead about it!
The good news is that other MyCOPDTeam members have been through this. One member shared that their dentist was very accommodating and allowed them to take breathing breaks and make adjustments during the procedure. Communication with your dental team beforehand is key.
Here are some practical tips to consider:
- Talk to your pulmonologist before the appointment so they can advise on timing your medications and coordinate with your dentist if needed
- Bring a full list of your medications to share with the dental team
- Ask your dentist specifically about the no-rinse rule — they may allow you to gently sip and let water fall out of your mouth rather than actively rinsing or swishing
- For Breztri, rinsing after use is recommended to reduce infection risk, so clarifying this with your dentist is especially important For your nebulizer medications in the evening and the following day, continuing to use them as prescribed is important — skipping COPD medications can worsen symptoms. Your dentist and pulmonologist working together can help find a safe middle ground on the rinsing restriction.
Don't hesitate to call both offices today to get clear guidance before your appointment tomorrow. You've got this! 💪

@A MyCOPDTeam Member I agree about talking to your dentist. I'm sure they encounter things like this all the time, and have a way to work around it. Please keep us posted, I'm curious what they tell you to do. In the meantime, relax😅, and don't stress to much. Hugs
