Still hoping for the trip to OR but will drive over the Siskiyous where the peak elevation is over 7K ft. Starting in Ashland at almost 2K but staying in Grants Pass at about 1K. The last couple of trips to CO I think the altitude was starting to affect me, but I functioned okay at 5K to 7K. I am NOT giving up on this plan to go see my wonderful friends and their new pup Betty, it's just not an option
Driving about 2 hours from Ashland over the Siskiyous would probably be 2 hours at most.… read more

Do any of you fly and go to high altitude places such as Canadian Rockies, Alaska and such. Do you have to use oxygen both on the airplane and wherever you are visiting?
Trip to Grand Canyon @ 7000 feet went well. No breathing issues 😀
Does anyone know if it is safe to travel abroad to high altitude with stage one COPD?
I fly to Europe every year. I get wheelchair assistance in airports. I preselect seats near test rooms. I’m not dependent on oxygen so that’s lucky. The layover and long trip tire me out but I’m… read more
Has anyone had major difficulties when you are visiting someplace that has high altitude. I was in NM last week and had a major breathing problem with the high altitude as well as adema in my ankles. Had to go to the ER.
Thanks Ray. My future plan is to visit only places with low altitude. That way I will not have a problem.
I live at just over 3400 elevation., We took our trailer and went up to the Sierras, here in California, about 6000 Elev. It was extremely difficult to breathe. I find it takes a few days to kind of… read more

Has any of you been told by your doctor what highest altitude you can go in with your COPD.
Machanikea69: I travelled to the Grand Canyon last Oct with my adult sons. I'm on O2 24/7 at 2 liters. While there I increased my O2 and doubled my prednisone to 20 mg. Breathing was tough, but… read more
The love of my life lives in northern Arizona. The altitude there is higher there than in Phoenix, where I live. Because of business obligations it is not feasible for him to move down here. Does anyone know anything I can do to make the transition to a higher altitude easier for me? I want to keep up with him as much as possible. Help!!
I would recommend oxygen for higher altitudes, I was in Yellowstone and Jackson Hole Wyoming, 10,500 ft. I would not be able to do that without oxygen, it can help one lead a fairly normal life.
Thanks for your answers. Was hoping it would be like athletes training at attitude. Would get easier over time and much better when you went down.
COPD. No oxygen yet but I’ve had some problems with shortness of breath turned into full blown panic.
Thank you
